Soup's on at Soupfest 2018

Soupfest Blog.jpgWhen Jack Frost comes nipping at your nose (or even toes for that matter), there is nothing more comforting and warming than a bowl of soup. A piping hot bowl of soup on a cold winter's day can feel like a big warm hug, not to mention all the other restorative properties it possesses.

Soup, depending on the type is loaded with vitamins and nutrients and is a great way to fill up and fuel up. It has also been said that sipping hot soup and breathing in the steam helps clear up congestion and the extra hydration is helpful for flushing out viral bugs; chicken soup in particular contains anti-inflammatory properties that soothes sore throats and inflamed sinuses.

A bowl of soup does wonders psychologically and physically and in the case of Soupfest also charitably. The annual fundraiser now its 16 year stirs up support for Living Rock Ministries, an organization that responds to youth-at-risk. Soupfest which takes place on Wednesday, February 21st at the Hamilton Convention Centre is an event to raise funds and awareness about the efforts and programs of Living Rock.

It is a community celebration featuring fun for the whole family. Chefs from 25 local restaurants will be putting their culinary skills to the test and vying for the titles of Best Soup, Most Creative Soup, Best Display and the Best Grow Local. Local restaurant The Burnt Tongue has been working with youth from Living Rock on a special soup that will be sampled for a small donation at the event.

In addition to slurping up several different soups served up by local celebrities and politicians, attendees can enjoy live entertainment from local performers and bid on items in the Toonie Auction.

A heart and belly warming event demonstrating the generous spirit of the Hamilton community. For tickets and information about Soupfest visit their website www.livingrock.ca
